Accounting practice management platform Canopy on July 22 launched Smart Intake, a native solution that automates client intake and tax workflow with AI-powered questionnaires, featuring intelligent prefill, document checklists, and real-time customer relationship management data sync.
Smart Intake puts an end to “portal overload,” delivering a seamless client and staff experience for accounting firms that leverages all of the information inside the system firms already use to run their practices. Smart Intake works with Canopy’s existing client portal, reminders, proposals, and engagements, bringing everything into one platform.

Client information is prefilled for easy review and confirmation, while responses sync instantly to CRM records and checklists update dynamically, reducing manual work, giving significant time back to the team, and freeing them to focus on delivering real value. In tax prep scenarios, firms can save as much as 20 minutes per client, which adds up quickly when managing hundreds or thousands of returns.”
Unlike third-party tools that rely on clunky APIs, limited integrations, or isolated portals, Smart Intake is fully embedded in Canopy’s unified platform, resulting in a synchronized, always-up-to-date experience that eliminates duplicate data entry, sync errors, and vendor sprawl, the South Jordan, UT-based company says.
Key capabilities available now include:
