Top 60 accounting firm Doeren Mayhew has acquired Houston CPA firm Reimer McGuinness Hess CPAs & Advisors, growing its presence in the market.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. As a result of the acquisition, all of RMH’s 38 employees joined Doeren Mayhew as of July 1.

“We’re extremely excited to expand our team with this acquisition,” Chris Masters, Houston managing principal at Doeren Mayhew, said in a statement. “Like Doeren Mayhew, RMH is known for delivering quality services with a tailored approach, and their complementary services will make for a seamless transition. We’re also looking forward to growing our Houston team with a group of very talented accounting professionals and industry leaders.”
Founded in 2007, RMH provides tax, assurance, and outsourced accounting services to small to midsized businesses primarily in the health care, manufacturing, real estate, and nonprofit sectors.
RMH’s former co-founding partner Tom McGuinness has joined Doeren Mayhew as a senior advisor, while the remaining former partners, including Randy Reimer, Max Dunlap, Mike Huett, Amy Estes, and Shanna Rougeau, will join Doeren Mayhew’s current leadership group as principals.
“Doeren Mayhew has a strong reputation in the Houston marketplace, and although they are a large firm, we see the dynamic culture and entrepreneurial approach they bring to servicing clients and retaining their team members,” Reimer said. “With so much change happening in the accounting industry, we are looking forward to joining a firm that aligns with our firm values and brings additional resources to not only help our clients grow, but also our team.”
Troy, MI-based Doeren Mayhew is among the accounting firms that have received an infusion of capital from a private equity firm, selling a stake last year to Audax Private Equity. The accounting firm said in late August 2024 that the investment will allow it to broaden its geographic footprint via continued acquisitions, as well as to enhance its service offerings, technology infrastructure, and overall employee and client experience.

Doeren Mayhew now operates in an alternative practice structure: Doeren Mayhew Assurance provides attest services as a licensed CPA firm, while Doeren Mayhew Advisors LLC provides business advisory, tax, and non-attest services. Collectively, these entities and its subsidiaries continue under the brand name Doeren Mayhew.
The firm’s last M&A deal was last month when it acquired Grand Rapids, MI-based accounting firm Benoit & Associates CPAs. Doeren Mayhew also acquired another Houston-based firm, Frierson, Solá, Simonton & Kutac, in June, as well as Draper Bialik & Company CPAs in Grand Haven, MI.
